Doctor Who quote

"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and... bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things."

Day of Delirium #368 - Favorite Polish Activity

Our favorite activity in Poland was easily the raft trip in Zakopane. The weather was supposed to be rainy and cloudy but it ended up being bright sunshine and blue sky.

The night before my Mother had asked the tour guide if we could release some of my Dad's ashes while on the raft. The tour guide answered, "You don't ask, you just do."

The next day, when we arrived at the river, he asked my Mother if she was ready. At first she was confused but then it dawned on her what he meant and said yes. He made sure she got a seat at the edge of the raft. It was perfect too, as we had a seat between each other then and in the full sun that was very nice.

As we slowly travelled down the river, with our Polish pole masters directing the boat and our tour guide translating their stories, we reveled in the 180 year old history of this activity.

Then my Mother reached into her purse and slowly released some of Dad's ashes into the river. She did this about 3 times and it meant so much as my father’s mother was from Poland and it felt good that he was able to travel there and now become apart of the earth there.

And there was no doubt that Dad was with us as my photos show so many sun beams in all the right photos.

I am so proud of my Polish heritage and am forever grateful my Mother and I were able to go on this trip. This release of my father meant so much to both of us. I am grateful for every blessing.

Day of Delirium #367 - Polish Gifts

Before our trip to Poland, I looked up if there was anything special I should seek out while I was there to bring home as souveniers.

I found the list of 10 things to get in Poland and since Christmas is next week, this seems an appropriate post.

I did pretty good with the list and I share with you some photos of the list items and other things I found.

Polish Pottery - I knew I wanted a piece of pottery but nothing big.
So this spoon rest was perfect. Small and I get to see it every day on my oven.
I just love the colors and painting.

Pins are my down fall as far as souveniers, and Poland almost let me down as apparently pins are not as big in Poland as one would hope. But I found this one and I am grateful.

I was determined to get a small Polish flag. I never expected it to be so hard to find but it was. This one was found at the gift shop in the Krakow airport as we were leaving. Phew

My usual purchase on vacation - although I don’t drink Starbucks or coffee at all, I just love their mugs. These are small ones but I love that it is Poland and my favorite town we visited.

I always try to get a horse related item also on my vacations. This one was handmade in Krakow and has the city scape on it. Basically a soft ornament but I thought it was just perfect.

Amber is the most popular item in Poland and I could not pass up this Polish Eagle set in amber.
I did get another item of amber but it will be a Christmas gift to me from my Mom, so we will have to wait until after the holidays for me to share it with you here.
