Doctor Who quote

"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and... bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things."

Day of Delirium #322 - Happy Thanksgiving 2015

Our friend Tony Kim (@Crazy4ComicCon) asked for five nerdy things I am grateful for this year.

Here is what I tweeted:

1) Tony
2) My nerdy friends
3) All the workers at all the cons
4) All the nerdy creators
5) Being nerdy

And I could go on and on.
I am fully blessed in my life and I am forever grateful to all my friends and family, nerdy and not.
I hope that you can reflect on all the blessings in your life today and every day.

Day of Delirium #321 - Random Acts of Kindness Day 11-19-2015

As many of you know my motto is Because Nice Matters, therefore I had to post about this amazing day that is coming up this Thursday. Please consider performing a random act of kindness and know that no act is too small. Even just smiling to a stranger is enough.

=====

Offer a random act of kindness on Nov. 19
By Freda R. Savana, staff writer
In light of the terrorist attacks in Paris and the ongoing suffering of so many in the world, a day devoted to random acts of kindness seems much needed.
And for the second year, Bucks County has declared Nov. 19 RAKDay. RAK stands for random acts of kindness.
Many schools in Central Bucks School District will mark the day with various activities like wearing brightly colored clothes, "because a random act of kindness can brighten someone's day," said Corrine Sikora, supervisor of student services with the school district.
Posters have been placed in schools, reminding children of the day and to be on the lookout for opportunities to do something kind for someone else.
"The acts can be small or big," said Sikora. "Any person can be involved. Each child can be empowered."
Open a door for somebody and say hello, take a shopping cart back to the store for someone or bring in a neighbor's trash can, suggested Bucks County Commissioner Diane Marseglia. The board of commissioners recently approved a proclamation for the special day.
"I think RAKDay is important because our technology and social media-dominated society has become somewhat cold," Marseglia said. "RAKDay provides an opportunity for a human connection. Plus, it feels good for the giver and the receiver."
Bucks' RAKDay was spurred by the family of Abby Schumer, a 10-year-old New Britain Township girl who died of cancer in 2012. She would have turned 14 on Nov. 19.
To honor their daughter, Meg and Mike Schumer created Abby's Light Foundation. Among the foundation's work is providing toys for patients at Doylestown Hospital's Della Penna Pediatric Center.
"Abby herself was a very unselfish, giving person," said Mike Schumer. "This is what she would have wanted."
RAKDay has "truly turned into a global event," Schumer noted, with people from New Zealand and Hawaii participating.
"It grows every year," he added.

Day of Delirium #320 - Where were you on 9/11?

Blogging Prompt: Where were you on Sept. 11th. Everyone has their story. What’s yours?

It was a busy day at work, when I heard one of my co-workers in a distressed state in the hallway. As I walked out to see what was up, she quickly walked back down to her office. I followed and overheard her saying, "But my son is in that building." I had no idea what she was talking about so I walked into her office and heard her say, "How does a plane crash into a building?" I of course asked what was going on and she responded with "A plane crashed into the World Trade Center building and my son works there." I was in shock and wasn't sure if what she said was true or not.

I went back to my office and obviously immediately went to the internet. What I saw when I got there was a complete shock.

My co-workers story was true.

I remember eventually the internet actually stopped working as so many people were signing on and our servers or whatever couldn't handle it. I then decided I just had to do my work. I couldn't help or do anything from where I was, so I felt my best option was to keep living my life and to be sure our company was ready in case our products were needed to help anyone involved in the disaster.

By the time I got home, there was so much more terror than the one building I had seen that morning. I remember walking in, dropping off my stuff, feeding the cat and then turning on the TV and sitting on my sofa. Hours went by and I didn't even move. I didn't cry. I didn't speak. I couldn't do anything but watch in horror and shock. How? Why?

And even 14 years later I still wonder how and why.

I wanted to post a photo of the buildings but I realize it is still a sore spot for so many people so I will just post the link to the website for the World Trade Centers.

I wish everyone peace and harmony this 9-11 and I pray we never forget.

Day of Delirium #319 - Fan Mail

No, I don't have any fan mail. This Fan Mail is a new box subscription service that I joined during SDCC this year. It is geared towards the woman nerd/geek/fan and run by two amazing women, Rose and Jenny. You can learn all about them and their box here.

I received my first box during SDCC and I just recently received my second box from them. Hubby and I already subscribe to LootCrate and we love them but I keep asking them to do a Female Superhero box but nothing yet. Then Fan Mail came along and not only is it geared to female characters, it is geared to females overall (jewelry, clothing items for females, etc). I couldn't pass it up.

So without further ado, here are the contents of the two boxes I have from Fan Mail.

July Box
Ladies of Comic Con

I am grateful they include a card about the items in the box, especially when I don't know what all the items are for :)

I love that they include a calendar of "events" on the back too. Very clever and helps make sure I don't miss any special events.

I may not watch Game of Thrones but I can appreciate the awesomeness of this Funko Pop! A little dinged up box but she is beautiful.

I don't follow The Guild but I adore Felicia Day, so this is a pretty cool item.

Again I don't watch Game of Thrones (Sansa's Dragonfly Necklace) but the Dragonfly is an animal totem for my husband so I truly love this piece.

Now we are talking!! This is Katherine's pendant from The Vampire Diaries. Now the show may drive me crazy but I LOVE this piece of jewelry from the show and now I own it. Thank you!

I also don't watch Orphan Black but it is on the binge list. I love that this is a comic book about the cast going to Comic Con. Very clever.

Ironically, I don't watch iZombie but after attending this year's panel I have added it to our binge list. I really don't like zombies so hubby will have to read this one to see if I can even look at it :)

This is also from Orphan Black and I couldn't tell out anything about it. LOL Ooops :)

So even though most of these items aren't meaningful to me, I can't deny that the items themselves are awesome and I feel lucky to have them.

August Box
Super Sheroes

Oooo this looks awesome! A first printing of a #1.

My favorite! I will wear this with pride!

I will have to make sure I keep this Batman vs. Superman pendant from the hubby but it is pretty cool that he could actually steal it and wear it. A cool part to the items in the Fan Mail boxes.

 Adorable bookmarks from Beedooto.
Thor, Storm and Spider-Gwen

A huge win in the pin department for me! I just cosplayed as Black Widow this year, so I am super excited for the Black Widow pin in the pack - which also includes Raven, Ms. Marvel and Batgirl!

WOOT!!!! My favorite actress and character. What more could I ask for?

I do now! Thank you Fan Mail!

Can't wait for September and all the months after that!

Day of Delirium #318 - You just never know

What is going to touch someone:

This is the first of my "Good News" posts. I have heard so many people lately say "Why is there so much bad news? Where is the good news?" So I decided I would try to 'report' the good news. This story seemed to fit that bill to a T. So here it is, my first Good News story...

Something You Never Realized About Guardians Of The Galaxy...

My mantra and "company" I want to start:

Because Nice Matters.

Day of Delirium #315 - Whatcha talkin about teen self?

BLOGGING PROMPT: If you could go back in time and talk to your teen self, what would you say?

Get over yourself.
Stop being so serious.
There is no such thing as perfect.
Cut your hair. It grows back.
YOU are the only person who has to love you.
The opinions of others don't matter.
No one actually pays that much attention to you so stop doing things that you think will make others look at you differently.
You are smart.
You are beautiful.
You are special.
You are you and that is the best thing in the world.

Day of Delirium #314 - Perspective

This is not a happy post - you are forewarned

As you go along your day today, keep all of life in perspective

and give your families HUGE hugs and tell them you love them.

Life can change in the blink of an eye.

This week I had to attend funeral for a 45 year old amazing man who leaves behind a good friend of mine and two beautiful young boys. He was out riding his bike, as simple as could be, and a young woman of 33 came along in her car and hit him. He died at the scene.

The ironic part... he is a daredevil, risk taker, fast everything kind of person and he is taken out by getting hit by someone else while riding his bike completely normally. I am devastated. My friend is a wreck to say the least. It was one of the hardest things I have had to do - I tried to console her at the funeral home but it was not possible. She was shaking so hard and everyone was just lost. There were four men who talked at the funeral and they all cried so hard - I have never seen men so vulnerable. Such a sad sad time.

To add to the devastation it was determined today that the driver was drunk and so much more. She was charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle, accidents involving death or injury while not properly licensed, DUI while blood-alcohol was greater than 0.16 percent (twice the legal limit for intoxication), recklessly endangering another person and reckless driving, according to records. She was sent to prison in lieu of $3 million bail. This is horrible. Such a waste of both lives. I beg of you to NEVER drive under the influence of anything.

So please be sure your family knows how much you love them every day. Squeeze them extra hard today and if you have a moment, please offer up a prayer or good thought for my friend and her family.

Day of Delirium #313 - When I grow up

BLOGGING PROMPT: Compare what you wanted to be when you were growing up with what you do today.

When I was growing up I wanted to either be a Veterinarian ...

or a professional Roller Skater.

Today and for the past 22 years, I have been a Label Control, Documentation, and Regulatory Affairs Specialist.

Yup, no picture for that job. LOL

You can see how that all relates, right?

Yea, me neither.

But my job has afforded me evenings, weekends and vacations which the other two occupations most definitely would not.

Day of Delirium #312 - Inspiration

BLOGGING PROMPT: Discuss the person/people who inspires you on a daily basis.

Anyone facing a challenge and beating it with a smile.
Anyone dealing with oppression and beating it with kindness.
Anyone who respects all forms of life.

I just saw a commercial on TV the other day for Shriners Hospital and it was all these beautiful amazing children asking for money to support the hospital that supports them. The challenges these children are facing are immense and incredible but these children smiled and laughed and spoke with such grace that I just cried. How can anyone have a bad day or feel bad about themselves after watching these amazing children? Inspiration in spades!!

Day of Delirium #311 - Meow

BLOGGING PROMPT: If your child/spouse/family member/pet took over your blog for a day, what would it say?

Hmmm not sure my cats can type :)

BUT if they could, they might say:

Sooo Otis, what is up with Momma and all her kisses? Doesn't she know they drive us crazy?

What do you mean us, Milo? They don't drive me crazy. I love them. It means Momma loves us.

Well, she can show me love by just putting a overflowing food bowl down for me twice a day.

Oh Milo, you're so silly. Momma has to feed us, it's the law.

Not actually Milo and Otis but how Momma likes to think of them.

Day of Delirium #310 - Childhood fears

BLOGGING PROMPT: A childhood fear you got over.

I can say without a doubt that I am over my childhood fear of vampires biting my neck while I sleep.
I used to sleep with my blankets all pulled up over my neck and even my ears. I was so afraid that a vampire would come to my room and bite my neck. No idea where the fear came from but it was solid.

Then one day I stopped pulling my blankets up over my neck and ears and I was over it.

Day of Delirium #309 - I might be crazy

So it's been said that I might be crazy :) Well, I may have proven it now.

Please check out my other blog that my hubby and I just started:

This is our byline for the blog:

We're a geek couple living in PA with our two boys -- Milo and Otis -- who are short, orange, and furry. Oh, and they're the cats we're bookended by! We love movies, TV, comics, books, and comic cons. And, from time to time, we'll share our thoughts on these nerdy things.

Day of Delirium #308 - Vacation

So I like to travel. I like vacation. I however have always had plans on my vacations. All trips have a purpose and pretty much an itinerary. Then this past week my best friend and I went to the beach. I LOVE the beach but I don't get there. My Dad never liked the beach and neither does my hubby (but hopefully someday I will change that for him). So when my best friend wanted a beach vacation I was in.

We went to Clearwater Beach Florida and stayed at the awesome Palm Pavilion Inn. It was just what the doctor ordered. Here are some pictures to enjoy. I hope you can feel like you were there with us.

Day of Delirium #307 - Childhood

BLOGGING PROMPT: Share a special story from your childhood.

My parents decided that the Christmas present that I most wanted would be given to me by my Uncle Walt each year. So when I wanted the special Nike sneakers with the purple swish on the side or when I wanted the tubby stuffed teddy bear or even when I wanted the cool striped pants with white blouse and very cool pink necklace, the presents came with "From: Uncle Walt". I always thought it was amazing that he gave me the exact present I wanted each year. I even named they bear Wally :)

It was years later when my mother told me that she would buy the gifts but then he would pay for them and she would put his name on the card. While some people could be upset by finding this out, I found it an incredible story about my parents. So many parents want to be the ones to give their children the best presents, the most, or whatever. But my parents wanted to be sure we have a full family experience. My Uncle Walt for sure is my favorite uncle and we had a very close relationship. That might not have happened if my parent's didn't set up this special situation. I appreciate my parents so much for being strong enough in their convictions and in their love of me that they would give up the extra excitement that my uncle got when I opened my special gifts each year.

Thank you Mom and Dad for showing me the most giving of hearts. I love you.

Day of Delirium #306 - Favorite Present

BLOGGING PROMPT: My favorite present I’ve ever received…

Tickets to see Billy Joel when I was much, much younger.
My sister gave them to me for Christmas.
I remember opening the present and just crying.
It was going to be first concert with my favorite musician with my sister.
My aunts were so confused.
They had no idea who Billy Joel was or why I would be crying.

The concert was awesome and I will never forget it.

Day of Delirium #305 - What would you say?

BLOGGING PROMPT: If you wrote a letter to the President, what would it say?

I rarely post anything political, much less even discuss it in real life but I like this question and made me think…really hard :)

First and foremost I would say thank you for liking women. Meaning that he respects and supports that women exist and that we have a say in this world.

Then I would thank him for loving his wife and his two girls. He is a good father and husband and that to me influences how he acts as President and I think has helped him do the good things he has done.

I would lastly thank him for giving his time and effort to make our country better. That he tried things, that he thought outside the box at times, that he tried to work with everyone, and that he chose to put himself on the line in the highest post in our country. It is not a job I would ever want or be able to do. It takes a special human to even attempt this job regardless of outcomes.

I hope that anyone reading this realizes these are all my thoughts. I do not write this to start a discussion or an argument. I am actually a little afraid to click publish but I am going to take my chances. I'm sure my long term readers know me well enough :)

Day of Delirium #304 - Real life

BLOGGING PROMPT: We all try to put our best foot forward when we blog. What would your readers be surprised about if they met you in real life?

I think I will ask my reader's that have met me in real life to answer this question. I try to be who I am here and in real life but I am sure there are differences. And if the surprise is negative, I have no issue with that. In fact I welcome it as if it is something I should work on, then by all means let me know.

Day of Delirium #303 - A few of my favorite things

BLOGGING PROMPT: If you had to watch one movie or television show, or listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be….and why?

Movie - Notting Hill

Notting Hill makes me happy. It is funny, sweet, sad, crazy and I just adore the family dynamics of all the friends. A lovely story with beautiful people.

TV - Parenthood

Parenthood is just the most amazing TV show. The acting and actors are beyond compare. The stories are incredible and while I usually don't like such realistic stories, I love that these people are my family. They are my friends, people who live next door, people I work with, people that I will love until the end of time. It is a shame the show has ended but it will always be one of my favorites.

Song - Closer to Fine by the Indigo Girls or Shine by Collective Soul

Closer to Fine is perfection.

Shine is perfection.

Indigo Girls and Collective Soul are my favorite two types of music. I could not live without them in my life.

Day of Delirium #302 - Motto

BLOGGING PROMPT: What is your motto in life?

This is sooo easy

Because Nice Matters.

And along those lines

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

There is a theme in my life. I just want people to get along.
Respect is all I ask.

Day of Delirium #301 - Readers

Blogging Challenge: If no one ever read your blog or knew that it existed, would you continue to write?

To be honest, I am close to it and I still write.
There is a saying that I always liked, "If it helps even just one person, then it is worth it." So to carry that over to this challenge, "If one person reads it and gets something from it, then it is worth it." Even if that one person is me.

Day of Delirium #300 - 3-7-2005

Ten years ago my life changed forever.
Ten years ago my father died.

On this 10th anniversary, I am not here to be sad or wallow or look for sympathy.
On this 10th anniversary, I celebrate my father's life.

I celebrate everything that made him the most amazing man I know.
I celebrate all that he taught me.
I celebrate his love.
I celebrate his life.

And all I ask is that you do the same.
To honor my father on this day:
I ask that you do one thing that makes you happy.
To honor my father for the rest of your life:
I ask that you be nice, be kind, be open hearted, be happy.
Be the joy that my father always saw in the world.

Love fully, live fully.
