Doctor Who quote

"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and... bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things."

Day of Delirium #96 - Last Night on the Ship

So when I got back from my horseback riding excursion I found my Mom enjoying sitting on our balcony eating her lunch. I took a nice long shower and then joined her.

We just sat and relaxed while waiting for the ship to leave our last stop. We couldn't believe our time in Hawaii was already coming to a close.

The saddest part of the whole day was that we had to pack already. On the ship they have you put out your luggage before midnight for them to take it to the pier and you pick it up there. I did not like this idea because if meant keeping out toiletries and pjs, etc and it was very confusing actually. But we did it.

The second saddest part (in a funny way of course) was that when I asked my Mom what her favorite part of the trip was, she chose Friday the day she stayed on the ship and I went on an excursion. I teased her that she chose the one day she wasn't with me! But I understood what she meant and really did not take it personally, I might choose it as my favorite too ;)

The neatest thing that happened was as the ship turned to leave the port I noticed something. Does this look familiar to anyone? If you recall my GPS phone map... this is where Mom and I spent the day on Thursday in Kauai. I had no idea we were that close to the ship when we were there - that is how secluded it felt.

We then left to go to our Cruise Critic follow up meeting to be a part of a focus group that would provide our feedback on the cruise. The short version is that overall we all loved the cruise, the ship, the people and everything. The biggest complaint across the board was the lack of service in the paid dining rooms (Mom and I never ate there so it was not our complaint). The only thing I offered was creating laminated ingredient lists for all the food for each day (since it doesn't change) so when someone gets to a station they can just ask for the ingredients list and find out if it is gluten free, vegetarian, etc. They loved the idea and are going to turn it in to Corporate to see what can be done. I was very happy to hear that and I hope when I go on this cruise again in 2015 that it will have been implemented.

Then it was time to cruise past the Na Pali Coast and it was stunning. The ship has one of the crew narrate all about the coast and if we had just chosen a quieter place, we might have heard it all. But it was so beautiful and so very much Hawaii.

Made famous in Bali Hai.

See the rainbow?

Mom and I spend the night roaming the ship, picking out some pictures that the ship took and enjoying our last night. We ate one more time at the buffet and then hung out on the back deck enjoying the ocean.

Then one last sunset, put the suitcases out and get some much needed sleep.

Next up: Pearl Harbor

Beautiful pictures! I'm so happy that you and you're mom had a wonderful time. An inter-island cruise is something that I hope to do in the future.

Cool idea about the food list! I mean I'm not gluten free but I'd pick up the list just to see if they were trying to sneak scallions into a meal.

So glad your mom and you enjoyed this trip! I'm with your mom! Relaxing on a Friday in that setting so peaceful and beautiful sounds perfect!

Incredible journey and thanks for pointing out the rainbow! That is absolutely magical!

@Suz - Thank you. I can't wait to post our time together - it is coming up soon! I highly recommend this cruise but I have told you that already :)

@TJ - Awww thank you so much sweetie. I am a very very lucky person.

@TK - Isn't my Mom just the sweetest thing. I am so lucky. Thank you for commenting :)

@TT - Blech scallions. Honestly I would have loved a day of nothing in a way but I really needed to explore. Maybe she will get back there again and we can build in some do nothing days.
