Doctor Who quote

"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and... bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things."

Day of Delirium #168 - Meet me in St. Louis

March 2012 - Division 1 NCAA Wrestling Championship - St. Louis Missouri

I hadn't been in St. Louis since I was a child and I was very excited to go back. All I remembered was the Arch and upon seeing it again I realized why, it is quite impressive.

It was a wonderful trip and I have to say that if you get a chance to go to St. Louis, please go. It is an amazing city. The architecture is incredible, there are tons of free things to do, there are so many dining choices and it is just a great place to visit. I hope to go back soon.

We'll start off with the wrestling tournament though...

DangrMomma and I ready for some wrestling!!

Scottrade Center for 3 glorious days of wrestling!

The first sessions are 8 mats of bouts. It's quite fun trying to keep up but I love it.

Wrestlers warming up.

One of our 7 wrestlers ready to take the mat.

Our heavyweight on his way to the finals.

Then it moves to three mats and the wrestling continues.

Another of our wrestlers on the mat.

The final session is all pomp and circumstance before the final matches.
Here they file in the top 8 in each of the 10 weight classes.

Now it's down to one mat and the final two wrestlers in the 10 weight classes wrestle to determine the national champ for each weight. We had three in the finals.

All three came in second but one of them was ranked 11th so he had a great tournament and we couldn't be prouder.

We also had a bonus win while we were in St. Louis. The Lehigh Men's Basketball team defeated the Duke Blue Devils in the NCAA first round Basketball Tournament. Lehigh was ranked 15th and Duke 2nd. It was a HUGE win to say the least. It was so fun walking through St. Louis with our Lehigh shirts on and people pointing and saying "Hey, that's the school that beat Duke." Woot!

We did save one day after the tournament so that we could tour around St. Louis and here are some pictures from that time.

The arch on our way into town.

So incredible.

Union Station across the street from our hotel.

Shopping, eating, hotels, and paddle boats are here - very cool place.

Hidden Twilight ;)

The Opera House was just finished on its remodel in time to be the FanFest area.
And it's good it was moved there from outside at the Union Station.
Every day we had tornado watches due to some horrible "winter" storms.
We had no issues and even missed the rain every day for our walks to and from the hotel/center but it was safer to be inside than out during our time there.

I love how they put the poster on the steps.

I don't think I want to stay at the Terminal Hotel ;)

Our hotel - free hot dogs, popcorn and soda every night.

On the train to the Arch.

This is the third city I have been in that Cavalia is there ... the next week!!
I will see this show, I will!

Makes me think of 17ForeverLisa

The Arch from the train station.

The Arch

It was a little windy :)

We got there too late to be able to go up in the Arch but I will NOT miss out on that next time.
Please please make sure you get to St. Louis if you get the chance. I really can't stress how much I wish we had more time to tour and really see the whole city.

This year's tournament is in Des Moines Iowa but we won't be making the trip this time.
We couldn't get tickets and it is extremely expensive to fly to Iowa from PA.
