Doctor Who quote

"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and... bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things."

Day of Delirium #108 - FFOORRKKSS 2011

Yes, 2011. I am still behind in my postings...

I was so happy that Twitarded did a second Forks trip in 2011. Not only because I got to travel with Living With Edward again but because my hubby was able to take the trip with us too. I knew he didn't care about Twilight but I knew he would love my friends and the Pacific Northwest. Apparently his line was "I don't care about Twilight but I love my wife."

Highlights:

Seattle party the first night when 17ForeverLisa surprised everyone by showing up for the trip. The best part was MamaCougar coming over and telling me we should take a picture to text to Lisa to make her sad. As she was sending the text, I was receiving the text from Lisa that she was almost at the bar. LOL!!

Hiking the Hoh Rainforest and deciding to go "just a little further" to see the waterfall on the hike.

Taking MissTejota to the bus stop in Port Angeles at 4am so she could get to Seattle for KittyElvis' bridal shower. Many thought we were crazy but I didn't care. 1) It is what you do for people and 2) it was a little selfish, hubby and I found out that Hurricane Ridge is a great place to watch the sunrise and after seeing the sunrise in Hawaii, I didn't want to pass it up.

Following VitaminR back to Seattle and figuring it out through Twitter. Too bad I took a wrong turn and we lost each other :(

Having hubby treat LwE and myself to a trip to the top of the Space Needle on our final night. Amazing!

Meeting Suzspetals!!

Having time with Donnersun, Laxplays, AGirlintheSouth and DonnaWhoDoesNotTweet.

Finally meeting PurpleWhipped and having her climb me while hugging me.

Having hubby meet SwedenSara.

Meeting Edbrella and her awesome sister Hayley.

Reconnecting with MusingBella, StarLitViolets, DoubleDippin and so many more that I know I shouldn't have started listing people because I can't list them all.

And lastly hanging out and celebrating Twitarded - SnarkierThanYou, JennyJerkface, LatchkeyWife, VitaminR and Myg.

Day of Delirium #107 - Optimism 101

From Oprah Magazine:

"Martin Seligman, PhD, the father of positive psychology, gave us a quick lesson on a classic optimism-boosting exercise - which he calls the ABCDEs. The goal, Seligman says, is to get you to stop thinking pessimistically, rather than teach you to start thinking optimistically (which rarely works). "This fix isn't instantaneous," he says. "But we've done studies on it involving thousands of subjects, and we know it's effective." So the next time you experience a setback - anything from a leaky faucet to a fight with a friend - walk yourself through these five steps:

A - Name the Adversity, or problem.

Example: I didn't get a call back after my interview.

B - List your Beliefs. These are your initial reactions to the problem.

Example: The interviewer saw right through me. I don't deserve that position. And he could
probably tell I don't believe in myself. I'm sure the other applicants are smarter, younger, and
          more qualified than I am.

C - Identify the Consequences of your beliefs.

Example: I'm going to quit my job search so I don't have to suffer through this feeling of
          failure again.

D - Formulate a Disputation of your beliefs. Pessimistic reactions are often overreactions, so start by
      correcting distorted thoughts.

Example: I probably didn't feel confident because that position wasn't the best fit. It's only a
matter of time before I find an opportunity that's right for me. And not that I've had practice, I
will be better prepared to present my best self.

E - Describe how Energized and Empowered you feel now.

Example: I'm more motivated to keep looking for a job that makes me happy. I won't let fear
          stand in my way.

Practice this exercise as often as possible, and when we can, take time to write out the ABCDEs. Eventually, the sequence will become a habitual thought process. Seligman found that his subjects were still using the technique four years after he taught it to them." - Lauren Dzubow

I don't usually just post someone else's information but this was too good to try and word myself. I have actually read the B and C examples in tweets and Facebook posts, so I know people feel this way. If we can just take a step back and implement D and E, perhaps we can change our outlooks and our lives.

If anyone would like to share their use of this in the coming weeks, please feel free to post in the comments.

Day of Delirium #106 - A Thought for Wednesday

"MR. THOMAS -

I read something this morning but I can’t remember exactly what it said. It was something like, "One does not think the moment is important until it becomes a memory."

That is so true, especially this morning.

Last evening we lost Mr. Thomas, our cat of some fifteen years. Each morning, when we went in to use the bathroom he was always there to rub against our legs. This morning there was no one there to rub against our leg and now that moment has become important.

How many more instances will we let pass without giving them the respect and importance they deserve -- be it our families, our friends, or our beloved pets before they too become memories?"

-- Roger Dean Kiser (please note Mr. Thomas is his cat - not mine)

I do try and think about this every time Otis wants to sit in my lap but I definitely still need to work on it.

What do you want to make important before it becomes a memory?

Day of Delirium #104 - Mariposa Bakery - Gluten Free Goodness

As promised here is the post about one of the most amazing bakeries I have ever been in. 11 years ago I had to go gluten free and thankfully in the past 11 years it has gotten easier to find gluten free food.

To find places when I am traveling I start with Googlemaps and put in my hotel or an address I will be at and then do 'search nearby' with gluten free. So when heading to San Francisco/Oakland to meet TwiKiwi50 I did this and found Mariposa Bakery in both San Francisco AND Oakland. The best part was the Oakland store was literally on the way to TwiKiwi50! Woot!

They are a 100% gluten free bakery with eat in, take out and online ordering available. I will admit that I cried in the middle of the bakery as I stood there and realized there was nothing there I couldn't eat. Simply put it was a great feeling knowing that Mariposa Bakery understands what gluten free is and what it means to people who have to be gluten free. I spent about 45 minutes trying to decide what to buy but in the end I got a pizza for Jaymes805 and I to eat on the night after Napa, some French Baguettes for Jaymes805, a brownie, a bagel, and some items to bring home for my hubby.

Here are my pictures from my stop at Mariposa Bakery:

The pizza was delicious and the baguettes tasted just like the "real" thing. The bagel and brownie were scrumptious and since then I have tried many other items through mail order and everything was great. I highly recommend anything from their bakery.

I wish they would open a bakery on the east coast as their food was/is AMAZING!! Looking at these pictures makes me miss them so much. I think it might be time for an order.

Thank you Mariposa Bakery!
