Doctor Who quote

"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and... bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things."

Day of Delirium #191 - San Diego Comic Con 2012 Cosplay

So last year hubby and I headed back to San Diego for Comic Con. It was going to be our second trip and after the first year seeing lots of people dressed in costume we decided we would so the same and cosplay this year during the 4 days of the Con. We were really excited and spent lots of time shopping thrift stores trying to find just the right items.

As you may know I had dyed my hair red last year and I was very excited to play 3 of my favorite red heads or gingers:

Agent Scully from the X-Files

Based on this picture.

I even had her badge thanks to my hubby who is a little obsessed with Gillian Anderson who portrayed Agent Scully. I even had my picture taken twice while in this cosplay AND was asked numerous times if I was real FBI. I was even told I was the only Agent Scully the one person had ever seen at SDCC and she had been coming for years.

Then it was on to Doctor Who and his current companion at the time, Amy Pond.

Based on this picture. I even found the small gold initial A for a necklace.

And another Doctor Who character, River Song, played by one of my favorite actresses, Alex Kingston.

Based on this picture.

I love that these outfits were all regular outfits and most of it was already in my wardrobe.
I also love that these outfits and the one below are not provocative as so many women like to wear at the Con. It's just not my thing and perhaps this is also why I like these characters so much.

The last cosplay was my favorite...

Firefly/Serenity's Zoe Washburne

Gina Torres is phenomenal and to be able to portray one of her characters just means the world to me.

People always ask why someone cosplays or why they chose what they do.
For me, it was choosing women who I look up to. Who embrace being strong females. Who are tough but loving. They all love their friends and families and would do what ever was needed to protect them. I like to think of myself like that so it seemed appropriate to portray these characters.
